This article will tell you about how you can start Phantom Liberty DLC in Cyberpunk 2077’s new update.
So you’re ready to begin Cyberpunk 2077: Phantom Liberty, but you’re not sure when the best time is? So, having completed the DLC’s multiple endings, we can tell you exactly where to start to receive the finest experience from Phantom Liberty in a way that makes sense within the larger tale.
CD Projekt Red follows in the footsteps of its Witcher 3 DLC and integrates the new Phantom Liberty expansion directly into the base game of Cyberpunk 2077.
That means Phantom Liberty will not be available as a separate menu option (but you can skip to it if you select New Game, more on that below). To play the Phantom Liberty DLC, which costs $29.99, you must first install the free 2.0 update.
If you start playing Cyberpunk 2077 from the beginning, you’ll notice that the first quest to unlock Phantom Liberty will appear on your phone around the beginning of Act 2, leaving you with plenty of objectives to do in the main story campaign.

This message appears in your phone as “Dog Eat Dog” and urges you to meet a contact at the Dogtown entrance. If you create a new save and choose to skip the main game, you will be dropped at a bookstore and the first thing that happens will be this call – you will skip Act 1.
While you are free to start Phantom Liberty right away because it unlocks a whole new ending for the main story campaign, there is a better location to begin the DLC.
Rather than starting Phantom Liberty as soon as the option presents itself, wait until you unlock the Act 3 mission ‘Nocturne Op55N1,’ which is one of those “you can’t turn back beyond this point” tasks.
That means you’ll need to complete Act 1, and the following Act 2 missions:
- Playing for Time
- Automatic Love
- Ghost Town
- Down on the Street
- Play It Safe
- Gimme Danger
- Search and Destroy
- Tapeworm
By starting Phantom Liberty now, you’ll be far enough into the main game that the new ending, which you can only get by beating Phantom Liberty, will make sense.
That’s because, depending on the endings you achieve in Phantom Liberty, the game may terminate for you right then and there.
However, completing Act 3 will effectively replace the Act 3 objectives and endings with Phantom Liberty’s, resulting in a much more gratifying and full story arc for V.
Furthermore, characters from the original game will play a role in the new Phantom Liberty ending, but their appearances will make a lot more sense once you reach Act 3 of the main campaign.
